CLINTON — New commissioner of streets and public improvements Kenny Buchanan was sworn into office during Monday’s city council meeting. The council also reappointed eight of its officials.
City clerk Cheryl VanValey administered the oath to Buchanan, who won a seat on the board in the April election. He was the only commissioner sworn in Monday. Other commissioners were incumbents who were reelected to another term.
The council also voted to reappoint city officials. The eight reappointed all were appointed to serve one-year terms.
Reappointed officials included city attorney Steve Myers, clerk Cheryl VanValey, treasurer Clint Lichtenwalter, budget officer Tom Edmunds, public works supervisor Steve Lobb, public health officer and sexton of the cemetery Tim Followell, fire chief Jeff Hoke and assistant fire chief Steven Page.
Edmunds also is commissioner of accounts and finances; Followell is city administrator.
Additional city business
The council approved the low bid of $20,651.85 from Quality Concrete and More for work to Moore Court, located in the northwest portion of the square. Other bids included Meuser Construction & Excavation, Inc. $54,705; K&K Construction & Concrete, $25,298.25; TKS Concrete Specialist, $24,870.50, and Triple K Konstruction Co., Inc., $44,927.50.
Commissioners approved the city portion of $30,421.13 as part of a façade grant agreement with John Miller, of Sorrento’s Pizza.
Placed on file for the next meeting was the annual audit, bids for water tower cleaning and bids for a chemical testing machine for the water department.
