BROWNSTOWN, Ill. — The Fayette County, Ill. Coroner’s office has identified skeletal remains discovered there as Joel Anthony Mason, 33, of Beaumont, Texas, formerly of Clinton.
A farmer discovered the remains in a field north of U.S. Route 40 in Fayette County. The Coroner’s office identified the remains on June 2, various news sources reported.
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 8 is continuing the investigation.
Mason was reported missing in Fayette County in August 2020. Local Fayette County media reported Mason was last known to live in the St. Louis area but did not have family in Fayette County.
Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris reported Mason’s last contact with anyone was on Aug. 2, 2020.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayette County Coroner’s Office or Illinois State Police.
