FT. MYERS, Fla. — Hugh G. Brady II, 93, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died at 6:18 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019, at his home.

Hugh was born on August 8, 1925 in Kenney, Ill., the son of Hugh G. and Ethel Inez Andrews Brady.  He married Ruth Kirby in December 1944, in Kenney; she preceded him in death on July 25, 2014.

Hugh graduated from Kenney High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Illinois. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Ft. Myers, and Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, where he volunteered a lot of his time.  

He was also a member of Lee County, Fla. Civil War Round Table, Knoxville, Tennessee Civil War Round Table, Illinois Association of Highway Engineers, State Retired Employees Association, East Tennessee Historical Society, and Smokey Mountain Historical Society. Hugh loved gardening, reading Civil War, WWI, and WWII books, and going to museums.

Hugh was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Hugh G. “Gene” Brady III; grandsons, Hugh G. Brady IV and James Brady; infant sister, Samantha Brady; and brother, Robert F. Brady.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Steve) Bartnick, of Springfield; granddaughters, Michelle (Philip) Squires, of Springfield and Patti (Brent) McRae ,of Milan; great-grandchildren, Mariah and Jared Squires; daughter-in-law, Rita Davis, of Springfield; cousin, Charlie (Wanda) Ketron; and friend, Jack (Judy) Delancy. 

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, Ill.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
