KENNEY — Ruth Irene Sturgeon, 84, of Kenney, passed away at 6:42 p.m. onMarch 15, 2017, at her family residence, Kenney.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney, with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.
Memorials may be directed to the Kenney Fire Dept.
Ruth was born on November 25, 1932, in Braymer, Mo., the daughter of Charles L. and Leota May (Summers) Phillips. She married Lawrence Eugene Sturgeon on January 23, 1950, in Clinton. He passed away on December 17, 1989.
Survivors include her children: Linda Coleman, Clinton; Mike Sturgeon, Kenney; four grandchildren, William Coleman, Maroa, Teresa (Dale) Jimison, Kenney, Michelle (Andrew) Fortune, Clinton, and Kaitlin Sturgeon, Kenney; 11 grea-t grandchildren: Alexis Howard, Dylan Jimison, Xavier Jimison, Tabitha Coleman, Skye Coleman, Brooklyn Coleman, Alana Coleman, Ryan Stapleton, Baze Stapleton, Morgan and Austin Fortune; one great-great granddaughter, Amazetta Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene Phillips and Dale Phillips.
Ruth was a member of the Kenney Christian Church and a member of the Kenney Cemetery Board. She had been involved with several cemeteries in the DeWitt County area.
She worked as an in-home caregiver and became very close with the families she served. Along with being a St. Louis Cardinals fan, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, and farming.
