CLINTON — Shirley Lavone Utterback, 81, of Clinton, passed away at 9:47 p.m. on June 16, 2018, at Manor Court, Clinton.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.
Memorials may be directed to the Maroa United Methodist Church stained glass project or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Shirley was born on December 20, 1936, in rural Weldon, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Lavone (Fleming) Helton.
She leaves behind her sons, Chet W. Utterback, Atwood, Ill.; Curt (Cathy) Utterback, Clinton; daughters, Sally Utterback, Reid, Waterford, Mich.; ReNae (John) Stewart, Mesquite, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind a sister, Linda Numberger, Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother, Richard Helton, Weldon; brother-in-law, Russell (Jan) Utterback, Clinton; sisters-in-law, Gail Ann Helton, Weldon; Marjorie (Ron) Yeast, Atlanta, Ill.; Juanita Hartford, Mendota, Ill.; Lois Staley, Troy, Ill., along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Utterback; parents, Harold and Lavone (Fleming) Helton; one son, Rick Baker; daughter, Gina (Utterback) Walls; sister, Victoria (Helton) Burge; brother, Larry Helton; infant brother; William Helton, and infant great-grandson, Alexander Scott.
Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed the many years of being Wayne’s farming partner and wearing her many hats.
Shirley taught Sunday school for many years at the Shiloh Chapel Church. She also was a member of the Maroa United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She also was a former commissioner for the Creek Union Drainage District 1.
The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Brit Williams and the staff of Liberty Village for the care and compassion they gave our mother over the years.
