CLINTON — Wayne Leo Sterk, 81, of Clinton, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on July 14, 2019, at his family residence, Clinton.
No services are planned at this time. Private burial will be conducted at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the OSF Hospice.
Wayne was born on April 11, 1938, in Tracy, Iowa, the son of Cornie and Minnie (VanVeldhuizen) Sterk.
Survivors include his children, Michael Sterk, Arcadia, Fla.; Marcia (John) Cooper, Clinton; Melissa (Jeff) Myska, O’Fallen, Mo., grandson, Conor Cooper, Clinton, five brothers and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was a farmer in central Iowa for 30 years. Also, he formerly worked for Donalson’s Manufacturing, in Grinnell, Iowa prior to moving to Clinton, in 2002.
With his love of travel, Wayne took his family from one end of the U.S. to the other. Later in life, he loved traveling abroad.
His strong work ethic instilled in his children will always be appreciated.
