FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Sgt. Sage U. Gustafson, 22, of Fort Campbell, Ky,, formerly of Eureka, Ill., entered the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 5, 2024, in Clarksville, Tenn.

Born in Astrakhan, Russia, on May 12, 2002, he became a United States citizen in 2004.

He is survived by his mother, Martina Gustafson, of Clinton; four brothers, Rayce Gustafson, Phoenix Gustafson, Jade Carlos Gustafson, all of Clinton, and Chase Gustafson, of Forsyth; and one niece. He was also dearly loved by his friends, Chuck and Cathy Leach and family of Germantown Hills, and Dan and Stacy Waller and family of Eureka, all of whom considered Sage as part of their families.

Sage graduated from Lincoln’s Challenge Academy in 2019. He also attended Illinois Central Christian School and Eureka High School. He joined the National Guard and later transferred to the United States Army.

Sage enjoyed talking about his military accomplishments and was well respected by his fellow soldiers. He was first stationed at Fort Stewart, in Hinesville, Ga., where served as part of the 3rd Battalion 15th Infantry Regiment, 2nd armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. Sage then transferred to Fort Campbell, Ky., and served as part of the 1st battalion 506th Infantry Regiment, Red Currahee family.

While on his visits home to Central Illinois, he enjoyed spending time with his friends. He was always willing to help others, including those he commanded in the military. We will all miss the way he laughed, which earned him the nickname ”Giggles” amongst the soldiers in his unit. Sage loved Jesus and was not afraid to share his faith with others.

He was a member of Liberty Bible Church of Eureka.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Liberty Bible Church, in Eureka. Pastor Dan Waller will officiate.
