URBANA — David Harold Buggar was born in Dyess, Ark. on Sunday, July 11, 1943, and passed away on Monday October 5, 2020, in Urbana.
He was the son of Otis and Cordelia (Phillips) Buggar, and they preceded him in death. He married Carole Rider Buggar on September 15, 2000, in Urbana, and she survives.
They made a comfy, little nest at Lake Mattoon. His carpentry skills shined there, whether it was adding rooms or building furniture, both of which he enjoyed. They celebrated 20 wonderful years of marriage this fall.
David also had two daughters, a “Punkin” and a “Germ,” who loved him very much. Kristi (Lance) Tynan, of Mt. Sterling, Ill., and Kimberly (Jeremy) Holmes, of Roanoke, Va. His two daughters blessed him with five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Robert David Tynan, Bayleigh Michelle Holmes, Devin Lance Tynan, Brock Ethan Holmes and Bryce lan Holmes, plus a bonus grandson, Gage Michael Holmes. All survive him.
He was the eldest of seven children. Surviving siblings are J.R. (Pam), Melvin (Sharon), and Mary Ann (Wally). Preceding him in death was an infant sister Edna Fae, Linda (survived by Tim) and Roger (survived by Cathy).
He graduated from school in Maroa, in 1962. In 1966 he joined the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a flight engineer. After the service, he started a career at IBT from 1969 to 1993. After leaving IBT, he found success as a fiber optic engineer and retired in 2015.
David is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and his aunt Sue.
As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
The Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
