CLINTON — Evelyn May Joss, 94, of Clinton, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on September 28, 2021, at her residence in Clinton.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to The Watchtower.
Evelyn was born on December 29, 1926, in Clinton, the daughter of Arley Wayne and Eva May (Polen) Griffith. She married Vincent Schmahl Joss on December 7, 1943, in Miami, Fla. He passed away July 24, 1945.
Survivors include her son, Roger (Mary Jo) Joss, Clinton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Lee Smallwood and Carol Ann Griffith, both of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one half-brother, William E. West.
Evelyn was a Gold Star wife. She was a pilot, owned a restaurant, took schooling to become a beautician/cosmetologist and owned her own salon. Evelyn took further training to become a nurse’s aide.
She enjoyed gardening, oil painting and sign language and attended ISU and Richland Community College. Evelyn contributed to many charities, especially those for the American Indian and for animals. Her last job was that of a school bus driver for the Clinton School District.
