KENNEY — Gary Lynn Ballinger, 66, of Kenney, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at his family residence.

Gary was born in Bloomington, Ill. on January 11, 1953, a son of Marcella Ballinger and Alvin (Lucy) Ballinger. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Normal High School in 1972.

Gary leaves behind his significant other of over 20 years Sandra L. Hefler and their beloved dog Murphy; his children Justin Ballinger and Brandy Stockton; two grandchildren Tanner and Taylor Stockton; one great-grandchild Aleya Rose Troeger; brothers and sisters Steven E. Lee of Hoschton, Ga. and Sherry Peifer (John), Vickie Scott (Chuck), and Lorie Vance (Todd) all of Bloomington/Normal.

Gary retired from ADM Mechanical, in Decatur. He shot fireworks for nine years at the El Paso Country Club and also in Clinton. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing with his buddy Tommy Robb, of Kenney.

Gary was known for his love of dogs and was known as the “dog whisperer” by his friends. He took care of his friends’ dogs as if they were part of his family, including Tucker, Brutus, Wrigley, Mable and of course his own dog Murphy who was truly the love of his life.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Gary’s honor to the ASPCA.
