CLINTON — What a difference a day, or in this case, three, makes.
After a disasterous Friday, the Lady Maroons came back with a vengence on Monday, January 6. Although the junior varsity (JV) game was a remnant of earlier in a tough 46-28 loss, the Clinton varsity arrived on the hardwood firing on all cylinders.
The teams were facing the Mt. Pulaski Lady Hilltoppers (Toppers), and after the first game, the opposition thought it was in for an easy night.
Not so.
It was almost as if the JV game was a decoy. The Lady Maroons began their leveling of the opposition in the first quarter, taking a 23-4 lead.
Both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter, still leaving the Lady Toppers down at the half by a bunch. The Lady Maroons then stormed out of the locker room into the third quarter and outscored the Lady Toppers 25-11.
The final quarter was a low-scoring affair, almost from a different time and place, but the Lady Maroons already had inflicted enough damage on their opponents to be victorious.
The Lady Maroons gained another win, this one resoundingly at 67-36.
The Lady Maroons were led by Mallory Cyrulik (#4) with 28 points, followed by Kaitlyn Rauch (#11) with 18 points and Destiny Schlesinger (#2) with 12 points.
This win puts the Lady Maroons even for the season at 10-10 and 0-3 in conference play.
