CLINTON — After a weekend away, earning Coach Josh Williams his 200th career win, the Lady Maroons took to the home court on Monday, March 1.  Their foe was the perennial strong and balanced Warrensburg/Latham Lady Cardinals.

Both teams were missing players due to various reasons, so the junior varsity (JV) was shortened to just two quarters and then there was a full varsity game.

The JV game began as a battle with neither team giving an inch.  At the end of the first quarter (half) the teams were tied at 8 points apiece.  In the second quarter (half) the home team was able to edge out the opposition on free throws and 3-point shots to take the win 19-15.

Alaina Soberalski led all scorers with 8 point (6 points on 3-point shots.

In between games, there was a ceremony to honor Coach Josh Williams on his 200th career win.  He said it was a long time coming (he’s coached for 14 years, 12 with the Lady Maroons and that he couldn’t have done it without good players and teamwork.  Coach Williams was presented with a commemorative basketball for his achievement.

The varsity game was next on the agenda and another tough battle was expected.  However the Lady Maroons took the game in hand and outscored the opposition 12-7 in both the first and second quarters.

With a 10-point lead at the half, the Lady Maroons didn’t let up.  Although the Lady Cardinals fought hard in the third quarter, they couldn’t outscore the home team.

The fourth and final stanza saw the opposition again attack but again come up short with the Lady Maroons taking the 47-34 win (#201 Coach Williams).  The varsity was led by Kaitlyn Rauch with 23 points and assisted by Mallory Cyrulik with 13 points.
