Maroons’ freshmen come from behind to beat Titans 39-34

CLINTON — It was the evening of December 19, a Thursday, and the Clinton Maroons freshman team was pitted against the El Paso/Gridley (EPG) Titans.

The Titans lived up to their name — they were mostly the taller team and were more aggressive in their play.  The home team seemed to meet its moniker of being marooned on the hardwood.  EPG led by 6 points at the quarter break and up that to 8 points at the half, seeming to have the game well in hand.

After the halftime break, however, the game changed dramatically.

The Maroons arrived playing the Titans style of basketball, and the opposition seemed at a loss about what to do.  Clinton pulled to within 5 points by the end of the third quarter.

Then, in the final stanza of the game, the Maroons outscored the Titans 14-4 to overcome their deficit and win the game in dramatic fashion39-34.
