CLINTON — This past weekend, the Central Illinois Revolution played four games in two days after having a fairly good Fourth of July tournament run.  However, the heat or the length of the summer took hold and brought the team down.

The downfall began with the team’s first game of the week on July 9 facing the Champaign Recruits.  The Revolution scored one run in the bottom first inning on a single by Michael Oswald.  From there the team’s offence faltered and the defense never arrived.

The Recruits tied the game in the second and then went on to a resounding win, adding 10 more runs to their bounty for a 12-1 win over the Revolution.  Garrett Wayne took the loss on the mound for the Revolution.  He pitched four innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out four and walking one.  Caleb Foster and Alex Littrel came on to pitch one and one third and two thirds inning respectively in relief.  Dominic Graves led the Revolution in offense, going 2 for 3 at the plate.

The second game on July 9 for the Revolution was played against the Illinois Islanders 17-U from the Springfield areas.  This game started hard for the Revolution, giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  The home team then cut the lead in half in the second inning with a run of their own.  This was a short-lived comeback as the Islanders stormed back in the bottom of the second with seven runs.  The Revolution seemed deflated from there on as they sparked little offense and gave up two more runs in the fifth to fall 11-1 in the final tally.  The Revolution only got four more hits in the game after the first inning.  Connor Moore led the Revolution offense with two hits at two trips to the plate.  Logan Petersen took the Revolution loss, pitching two innings allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out one and walking one.

Saturday, July 11, saw the Revolution starting the day playing the Mattoon Baseball Club, which a high powered team.  As with their last game, the Revolution lost their glimmer of hope as the opposition unleashed a four run onslaught in the first inning.  The Mattoon big guns kept firing with 2 more runs in the second inning and a final barrage of four runs in the fifth to cap the fireworks.  The Revolution could only muster three hits on the day with no runs.  Caleb Foster took the loss for the Revolution from the mound pitching four and one third innings allowing 10 runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking one.  For the second game in a rtow the Revolution committed four errors.  The positive for the Revolution were the three singles by Connor Moore, Logan Petersen, and Michael Oswald.

In the weekends finale, the Revolution took to the field of dreams with the Decatur Commodores.  (The original Decatur Commodores were an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs organization.)  The Decatur team struck first, letting the Revolution know they were on Commodore ground.  Decatur opened up with five runs in the second inning, adding one in the third, then sealing the game with five final runs in the fourth inning.  The Revolution meltdown was complete with the Commodores commanding 11-0 win in Four and one half innings.  Logan Wills suffered the pitching loss for the Revolution, tossing the pill for three and one half innings allowing 8 hits and 10 runs while striking out one and walking one.  There was no Revolution offense on this day.
