Win over W-L pulls Maroons up near even for the year

CLINTON — This past week, the Clinton Maroons baseball team was able to get in a home game against the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals in a CIC league game.  It brings the home team closer to an even season.

The game started in the second inning with the opposition initiating the action with two runs on three hits and a hit batsman.  Not to be left behind, the Maroons scored also in the inning with a solo home run by Rustin Wertz and heads-up base running by Cameron Wertz to score a tying run.

Then in the third inning the Maroons took a one-run lead on a score by Drew Stacy on a hit by Cameron Wertz.  Not letting up on offense, the Maroons added two more runs, one by Drew Stacey again and the other by pitcher Michael Oswald.

The fifth inning was interesting as the Cardinals made a run for the lead, scoring two runs of the own and getting another runner in scoring position before their outs piled up to three.

Then in the bottom of the inning the Maroons tagged on two more runs of their own with a walk by Braden Cross and a two-run homer by Logan Petersen to finish the offense for both teams.

For the Maroons, Michael Oswald (3-2) pitched a complete game allowing only 4 runs on 8 hits, striking out 8 and walking only 2.  On offense Michael Oswald was 1-2 with 2 walks, Rustin Wertz was 2-3 with a solo home run, and Logan Petersen came in late in the game going 1-1 with a two run home run.  The Maroons are now 7-8 over all and 5-6 in conference play.
