MONTICELLO — Marguerite Gibson-Thompson, 92, of Monticello, passed away at 7:53 p.m. on January 7, 2019 at the Piatt Co. Nursing Home, Monticello.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 11, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, with Jim Kilson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. on Friday, at the Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Halcyon Unit of the Piatt County Nursing Home.
Marguerite was born on September 16, 1926, in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Wilbur and Emily J. (Thain) Helmick. She married John R. Gibson on April 1, 1945, in Clinton. He passed away on August 22, 1985. She later married Halsey Lee Thompson on October 26, 1997, in DeLand. He passed away on February 4, 2015.
Survivors include her children, Richard Gibson, Wellington, Ill.; Barbara (Frank) Schwarz, Clinton; David Gibson, Bloomington; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by herparents, one son, William Gibson and sister, Wilma Harris-Wasson.
Marguerite was a member of the DeLand Christian Church and a member of the Home Bureau, Monticello. She volunteered at the Kirby Hospital gift shop and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank the Piatt County Nursing Home staff, nurses, and activity personnel for their loving care and friendship during Marguerite’s time at the nursing home.
